Ha !
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding The Romanians Are Coming.
We are sorry to read your criticisms of this series, we would like to assure that all of your comments have been logged and noted for the information of those responsible for our programming.
The production team have spent nine months filming and our aim will be to represent what happens during that time. We have already had experience of a thriving community atmosphere within the Romanian community and we are keen to reflect that.
Immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing our society. How to deal with these issues, and better understand them, are key questions at the upcoming general election and it is vital that public service broadcaster such as Channel 4 explores these themes. Channel 4 believes it is important to encourage debate and present programmes that tackle difficult issues or explore marginalised subject matter.
This powerful observational documentary series, tells the intimate stories of some of the people living in Romania's most deprived areas and living in subsequent poverty in the UK. The series has been made by an experienced team and filming followed strict protocols in relation to contributor welfare and consents in accordance with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.
While some of the issues touched on across the series are challenging, the series is a fair and accurate portrayals of what programme makers experienced during filming. All aspects of the programmes were told through the eyes of the contributors themselves, talking about their own experiences in their own words, the Roma gypsies are clearly portrayed in this film alongside other Romanians across a wide range of classes and backgrounds.
The series doesn't shy away from the social issues that can come alongside immigration, but it also features the courage and resilience of some individuals, families and their communities as they face tough times and grapple with personal demons. The series also focuses on people working hard to support others in need at a time when they have very few other options.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.
